How To use HBO Go Outside The US?

HBO is known for having some of the most amazing shows on TV. You can even find those shows that are not available on Netflix, so with that, you can imagine how great of a platform HBO is.

With HBO Go and HBO Now being available on all major platforms, it is possible for you to enjoy a wide range of content on your computer, tablet or phone. But, the only shortcoming in HBO Go and HBO Now is that it is confined to the US. So, if you are living in the US and have an account on HBO Go or HBO Now, only then, you will be able to access both these apps.

But, while traveling, if you log into your HBO Go or HBO Now account may result in an error message like ‘HBO is not available in your area’. But, there is no need to feel disappointed because there are workarounds for this annoying problem.

I’m not encouraging downloading the episodes illegally, but all am I trying to say is that you can access the service by paying for either HBO Now or HBO Go.

1. Get a VPN

This is perhaps the most common way of watching your favorite episodes on HBO, and using it makes sense while you are on the road. By using a VPN, you can make other computers think that your computer is somewhere else. When you log onto the VPN, the VPN logs onto HBO Now, but with a US server. This basically makes HBO think that your computer is still in the US.

While you are able to unblock HBO using a VPN, but there are companies like Netflix and Hulu that won’t allow you to do this and will still block you. Where the number of VPNs that successfully let you watch Netflix or Hulu content is quite less compared to the VPNs that allows HBO access.

Now, which VPN to use is a completely different debate. Therefore, I would leave it up to your wisdom. You can try the popular names that are available on the web. The only thing that you need to ensure is the internet connection, as it needs to be fast and reliable because online streaming requires a lot of bandwidth normally, plus you are adding a VPN in the network as well, which will add further load on the internet bandwidth.

2. HBO Now Force Resolution.

There isn’t any way to set the resolution of a video stream manually on HBO. Moreover, the detection of the internet speed is not that great in HBO as well. So, if the internet speed is slow, then instead of adjusting the video resolution accordingly, HBO will display an HD video that will buffer a lot in between, when it could play an SD video without any interruption.

But, there is a way to fix this problem. If you watch your favorite HBO content on your laptop using Google Chrome, then you can install a plugin named ‘HBO Now Force Resolution’. With this plugin, you can set the video to a specific resolution, from 360p to 1080p.

3. Slingbox

You can get a Slingbox and watch content from your home DVR while traveling. If you are using a Dish Network with a DVR facility, then it may have a built-in Sling. So, you can use it to watch HBO content while traveling.

But, this is a process that you need to perform before you head out of the house.
